Christmas on the Corner &
Christmas Parade - Port Washington, WI – December 3, 2011
|
|
|
Historic Port Washington is
the perfect place to celebrate a hometown Christmas. The
picture postcard setting is ideal for setting the stage for
your holidays. Reindeer, carolers, in-store promotions, St.
Nick, photos as an elf, and music by Bounding Main are all
a great way to spend an afternoon in early December. But
that's not all! At 6:15 we are at the head of the Christmas
parade, with lights, floats, and a lot of fun. While the
fireworks were cancelled because of the early rain, the
event was wildly successful anyway!

How do you achieve two hours
of bliss? Why you attend Bounding Main's annual

This year's Saturday show will once again be chock full of Bounding Main madness. There
will be Sing Alongs, Play Alongs, audience
participation, some surprises from us, and of some
outstanding surprise hijinks that even WE can't
predict. The Skokie Theatre staff told us
that last year for our Sunday matinee we had twice the
attendance compared to the typical shows and we have you to thank, thank
you! Thank you to all who came to play with us for a few
hours and support live entertainment at a wonderful
venue. Oh, and after the show, we did in fact take over
the Curragh Irish Pub, which we'll probably do again
this year!. Thank you to
Andrew and Sandra for starting that fun tradition. What
we would do without you? Well, we don't know what we'd
do without you, and we don't want to find out, so we are
working right now to set the show for the 2011 Skokie Theatre

Schauberger/Anger Wedding
– Appleton, WI – September 24, 2011
|
|
|
It was such an honor for
Bounding Main to be asked to be part of the celebration of
the joining of a young man and woman in marriage.
Laura and Joel celebrated their union in a fashion true to
their hearts -they had a renaissance faire themed wedding
reception. The delicious wedding cakes were decorated
with Dungeons & Dragons miniatures, there were trebuchets on
each table, there were decorations and theme items
everywhere. Many of the guests dressed in costume and
many of their friends and family really enjoyed our music,
and that of our friend Dan the Bard, as if they were
regulars on the ren faire scene. It was a warm and
wonderful time that we were delighted to be a part of. |

Bounding Main EuroTour IV: International Shanty Festival Bie Daip
– August 26-28, 2011
|
"Bie
Daip", which translates to "By the Canal", is held
annually in the city of Appingedam in the northeastern
Netherlands. This shanty festival is one of the premier
maritime festivals in Germany, Poland, France, and the
United Kingdom. Each year top performers from all over
the world are invited to entertain at the event, and
this year they invited us! Performances occur all over
the city and include locations such as the main stage,
various public places, open access terraces, boats, and
other fun locations. A concert on Saturday night at the
Nicolaï Church is a festival favorite.
We are so honored to have
been
included in the festival this year and to be in such
good company. Our musical friends from Oudewater, Four 'n'
Aft, Gaye & Trish, and Paddy's Passion also performed. Many other musicians lent their
considerable talents to the festival and we were
delighted to spend time
with friends old and new.

Duluth Music & Maritime

With the huge success that Duluth
enjoyed for last year's ASTA Great Lakes Challenge event the
city elected to continue the adventure with a more modest tall
ship event in 2011. This was our first performance in
Minnesota so we were very excited to bring the Shanty Apocalypse
to new grounds! The roster included our great friend Tom Kastle
and many great contemporary bands.

Janesville Renaissance
Faire - Janesville, WI – May 14-15, 2011
|
Janesville Renaissance Faire
was a delightful, if chilly and somewhat wet adventure
in wild and wonderful Wisconsin. It was held at Traxler Park in
Janesville, WI on May 14-15 2011.
For us it was a huge
success! We overcame the chilly threat of rain by
adding extra antics to our shows. We had special
deliveries of cookies, marshmallows and chocolate coins!
Some more special than others, you might guess. We
sold CDs, made new friends and enjoyed the benefits of
the wonderful town of Janesville.
The official commentary from the organizers of the faire
was also positive: "We were so grateful to see 18
new vendors this year and 20 local and regional
performers. This year's event saw more than 3000
attendees, a new weekend record. Due to this attendance
we have been able to double our number of scholarships
for next year and give to fantastic community outreach
organizations. Thanks to everyone who brought in a food
donation, your efforts are very much appreciated by the
needy families supported by ECHO."

Singing at the Milwaukee Admirals Game
– Bradley Center, Milwaukee, WI - March
27, 2011
|
Bounding Main entertained
and sang The Star Spangled Banner at an exciting game of the
2010-2011 season of the Milwaukee Admirals, who defeated the
visiting San Diego Rampage.
Our pre-show
mini-concert was performed at our vendor table and around the
second level of the Bradley Center. Jon Winski, our friend who connected
Bounding Main with the Admirals in the first place watched our
vendor table for us when we went around singing - thanks Jon!
Next to the crew's table was an animal rescue group with
delightful dogs for us to admire and enjoy. Naturally we
ate some good, Wisconsin food while we were there, just to make
it a total experience. We
received many compliments on our performance of the
national anthem from the Admiral's marketing staff as
well as many audience members. After the
victorious game was over everyone was invited onto the
ice to skate - and of course we were SO there as well!
The Dalby twins, as one might expect, were graceful and
skilled. The boys ... not so much. It did
make for great fun and plentiful photo opportunities, if
nothing else.

We are so excited! Bounding Main will be celebrating

couldn't wait a moment longer to deliver it to those who
have been asking for it. We hope to pack the pub, raise the

our lives. Make your plans now to join us for the party!

2nd Annual Green Bay Pirate Festival
–
August 14-15, 2010
|
 |
What can we say
about our evening at the 2nd Annual Green Bay Pirate
Festival? Arrrrr! That's what we can say. After a quick
costume adjustment we went from the Tall Ships Festival over
to the Pirate Festival and spent a few hours playing with
the pirates. Jon actually ended up with a hook and an eye
patch but that's another story.
Our friends in Rakhshanda (tribal belly dancers) and
Bilgemunkey (pirate radio) were also performing and spinning
pirate tunes for guests at the event and we loved seeing all
of these talented entertainers at the fest. The evening was
filled with food and drink, song and dance, and of course
laughter. We hope to see everyone there again next year!

Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival
–
August 14-15, 2010
|
|
What a
wonderful weekend! The sun was shining, the sky was
blue, and a dozen tall ships were happily floating in
the bay. The event organizers did an outstanding
job this year and we loved every minute of the festival.
We had formal stage shows but in between those times, we
sang to the people waiting in line to tour the
magnificent ships. They were a captive, and appreciative
audience, and we had tons of fun crashing the lines.
With over 50,000 maritime aficionados attending the
event there were plenty of people looking to be
entertained and we were just the group to do it!
We'd like to thank Bounding Mainiacs Bob and Jean for
inviting the crew to dinner on Friday night when we
arrived in Green Bay. Not only did they open their home
to us, they laid out a dinner feast that we thoroughly
enjoyed. We had a simply fabulous evening in their
company and thank them for their unending support of us
and our music. As a bonus, Bob gifted us with an
original sailor/pirate joke that we have sneaked
into shows. The joke fits right in with the others in
our bag of yucks so we're happy to share it with
unsuspecting audiences. Thanks Bob!
We had a wonderful weekend spending time with fans (old
and new), singing, taking pictures with folks, and just
having a great time doing what we do. We hope to see
everyone at this unique festival when the tall ships
return in four years! |

Green Lake County Faire
–
"Adventure on the High Seas!"
–
August 7, 2010
|
 |
This show was the kick-off to a
five weekend run that will take us all over Wisconsin and
Chicago!
Here's what we did...we sang to the cows and they seemed to
like it!; we sang "Marching Inland" to a re-enactor complete
with actual hand-made paddles and then played a paddle game
that caused quite a stir; we had two stage shows which were
tons of fun!; we "helped" with the raffle; we interrupted
the BINGO game with calls such as "Rrrrr 6" and "Sea 2"; we
sang for some of our Veterans; we ate; we had some awesome
lemonade made from real lemons!; and we shared a song or two
with Tom Kastle.
When we were done with our day at the fair, we headed over
to the spectacular Heidel House Resort (one of the sponsor's
of the event) where we soaked in the hot-tub, ate dinner,
and then rehearsed some new music while playing on the
playground - in the dark - at about 10:00 PM. It was a
beautiful night, the wind kept those pesky bugs away, and we
had the best time singing our way through the swings and
slides. Sometimes it's the things we don't plan for that
bring us the most joy.
We had a wonderful time and highly recommend both the fair
and the Heidel House Resort! |

Wisconsin Maritime Museum at Manitowoc
–
June 25-26, 2010
|
|
Bounding Main returned to the
wonderful and fascinating Wisconsin Maritime Museum in
Manitowoc. We entertained for a private event
on Friday night and then performed a public concert early
on Saturday. The WIMM is a landmark museum, and is
responsible for such amazing projects as the 3-Emmy award
winning documentary "Lost and Found: The Legacy of USS Lagarto" with "Deep Sea Detectives" Richie Kohler and John
Chatterton, being the home of the actual WWII submarine the
USS Cobia, and having some of the most engaging exhibits and
interactive displays of any museum of its kind. It was
wonderful to return to the location of our first
maritime museum performance (2004) and to get more
photos on and in the incredible USS Cobia.
Please check out the museum's web site at

You should also consider an expedition of
driving up to Manitowoc to explore this great institution. |

Sue Young's Surprise Birthday Celebration
–
June 12, 2010
|
 |
Ron and Sue Young have been
great supporters of our over the last few years. They
have been constant fans at our shows at all of the stages at
the Bristol Renaissance Faire and have even hunted us down
at other events. They are always there to offer a kind
word or even just a warm welcome when it is most
appreciated. Ron asked us to help celebrate a
significant birthday for his darling wife, Sue, this year.
We trekked down to Orland Park where Ron had arranged a
wonderful gathering of family and friends for Birthday
celebration. Papa Joe's was a fantastic an very
supportive venue for this event. It should also be
said that the food was great, generous and very filling.
We gave Sue a whistle to blow to call us to her for a song -
any song, at her least wish. We sang several tunes for
her and also performed several custom sets, picked out by
Sue. It was such a pleasure to sing for such a lovely
group of people, even a recalcitrant group of teenagers who
grudgingly got into the scene. Happy birthday, Sue
Young! May you have many more in the loving company of
your great husband, Ron. |

Janesville Renaissance Faire
–
May 16-16, 2010
|
 |
Bounding Main had a
wonderful weekend at the Janesville Renaissance Faire this
year. The weather was sunny, and aside from
some wind on Sunday, it was a gorgeous weekend.
Everyone that worked the event delighted by a considerable
increase in attendance, and thereby success of their
scholarship efforts. If you have not visited this faire, schedule
some time to visit this fun show next year. You will see some familiar
faces, some new ones, and have oodles of things to see and
do. This year, we
were able to spend time with some very talented performers
and reconnect with Bounding Mainiacs that we have not seen
in several months. There was music, food,
drink, a variety of shows, and stunning wares crafted by
an increased number of gifted vendors.

Studio Recording with The Jolly Rogers
–
April 10-11, 2010
|
|
Two maritime music groups met
at the SmithLee
Productions Studio in
St. Louis - from Kansas City came The Jolly Rogers; from
Chicago came Bounding Main. Was this a Thunderdome-style
cage match: "Two bands enter, one band leaves?"
No, it was a cooperative recording for each of our groups
upcoming albums. Bounding Main and The Jolly Rogers
are fast friends that have performed at several shows
together and this gathering was as much for the good company
as it was the good music. Justin, our engineer, did an
excellent job of blending our styles and techniques, and our
own Jon Krivitzky created a wonderful score in an incredibly
short time. For our part, we managed to learn the
arrangement in about a week, which was pretty good and not a
little exciting! We look forward to the next
opportunity to perform again with The Jolly Rogers. |

Gunner Maggie's Retirement Concert
–
March 20, 2010
|
 |
Maggie retured from
Bounding Main; her last performance was held on March 20,
2010, at a concert held in her own home. About a
hundred long-time fans showed up, intermingled with some
folks that had never seen us perform before. The show
was filled with lots of typical Bounding Main hijinks -
random improv, insults about this and that, references to
coconut crabs and more. The event was audio recorded
by our friend Jon Baade and video recorded by our friend
John Wohlers. Many fans have posted their photos of
the event on their Facebook galleries already!
This was a heartfelt evening,
a gathering of friends and a moving on to new adventures.
Bounding Main will continue in a slightly different form,
and while we'll miss Maggie we know that she's going to
enjoying life with her wonderful career and family and will
be no stranger to our shows, albeit from the audience from
now on. |

Tawerna Żeglarska "Stary Port"
–
March 1, 2010
|
|
We are told that this is the
"after hours" venue that all of the performers retire to
after the Shanties concerts. This tavern is closely
associated with tall ship events and event organizers.
It hosts many live performances from folk and maritime
artists, judging by the many pictures featured on its
website. For us, the home of friends will be a welcome
place for us to visit and share a song.

Shanties 2010 - Cracow, Poland
–
February 25 - 28, 2010
|
 |
We are very pleased to
announce that Bounding Main will make its third European
musical destination Shanties 2010 in Cracow, Poland.
Of all European nations it can be said that Poland has the
greatest enthusiasm across all generations for the spirit of
maritime music. The welcome receptions for American
performers is legendary and we're thrilled to have the
opportunity to entertain there for their 29th annual
festival. We will be delighted to join our friends
Banana Boat, with whom we performed at Festival Maritim in
Germany in the summer of 2008.

Skokie Theatre is a centrally located venue for our fans in
Milwaukee and Chicago who came to
hear the richly harmonic renditions of traditional seafaring

Milwaukee Admirals Season Home Opener
–
October 24, 2009 7:30
PM
|
It
was a match made in, well,
some kind of maritime heaven! Bounding Main entertained at and
sang The Star Spangled Banner for the first
home game of the 2009-2010 season of the Milwaukee Admirals.
Even better, friends and fans that called John
Bitter, Director of Ticket Sales who told him they were a fan of Bounding Main
had a portion of their tickets donated to support the
Wounded Warrior Project.
This is a fund we've been supporting along side our Operation Share
the Shanties project.
We
also entertained in the atrium as fans entered the stadium
to watch the Admirals beat the Manitoba Moose. And of
course we had the pleasure to open the game with our
national anthem Gina belted out a wonderful Northwest
Passage for the Canadian team, too, eh?

Land Cruise to Corn
Maze – October 10, 2009
|
Hey! Who wants to go on a
cruise? A land cruise that is! Oh, you know us
so well. Bounding Main couldn’t possibly, ever, go on an
actual cruise so we’re going on a land cruise! And where
to? Nowhere water-based I can tell you that right now. How
about we do what we do best and get lost? Not Lost at Sea,
but rather lost in a corn maze. Nothing says ‘nautical
adventure’ like climbing aboard a yellow school bus and
heading out to a farm!
Here's a copy of a
flyer you can print out or send to your friends!
Join the crew as we sail along the roadways (instead of the
waterways) and travel all the way up to Spring Grove,
Illinois, to the Richardson’s Farm! Once there, we’ll get
lost in a corn maze by the light of the moon. Oh, did we not
mention that? We’re going to navigate the maze in the
dark! Ha ha! How’s that for high adventure? After we find
our way out (IF we find out way out) we’ll gather ‘round ye
old campfire and sing songs and make s’mores. Mmmm, s’mores.
None of that salty, rock-hard, tall-ship sailin’ food for
us. After a hard night navigating, we’ll want soft
marshmallow-y, chocolate-y type food ‘cuz that’s the kind of
sailors we are.
Date: October 10, 2009
Time: Bus leaves Gurnee Mills at 5:00 PM and returns to
Gurnee Mills at 10:00 PM.
What to Bring: Flashlight, blanket for lounging
around campfire, and a skewer for making s’mores. We will
have several picnic tables at our campsite but we never know
how many will be able to fit on the benches. Feel free to
bring a folding camp chair if you don’t want to sit on the
grass or your blanket.
How to Reserve Your Tickets: Tickets are $30 each.
Send Gina an email RIGHT NOW to reserve your tickets for the
event. Tickets are reserved on a first-come-first-serve
basis. Send your ticket request to
gina@boundingmain.com
and she will provide you with payment instructions and
additional trip details.
Tickets include: 5 Hours with Bounding Main! And
there’s more! A fantastic bus ride from Gurnee Mills to the
maze, a campfire complete with s’mores, corn maze adventures
including a 50’ tall observation tower and a 50’ long slide,
a concession stand at the maze, and new this year (for an
extra charge at the maze) a 30' high and 700' long zip
line!
Refunds: Sorry! No refunds. This will be a rain or
shine event. If it rains we’ll get on the bus and…well,
we’ll think of something!

St. Louis Pirate
Festival – September 26-27, 2009
|

We returned once more to the
intriguing and exciting Fort Royal on Martinique in the
Golden Age of Piracy, 1755. The St. Louis Pirate
Festival is a wonderful event put on by the same great folks
that produce the St. Louis Renaissance Faire, and hold it on
the same grounds. In September, however, the
renaissance is behind them and the age of sail is upon them.
There are marvelous black powder battles between the
island's troops and the pirate crews. There are tales
of love and dowries and the names of Calico Jack and the new
captain's daughter Josephine are being bandied about amongst
the people. Friends and fans joined us for the intrigue and adventure at
the Fourth Annual St. Louis Pirate Festival. We appeared
at the festival's final weekend for the season, and we'll be
there all day, both days, from 10 AM to 6 PM.

Port
Washington Maritime Heritage Festival
– August 14-16, 2009
|
The maritime history of Port
Washington was again celebrated during the 2009 Maritime
Heritage Festival in historic Port Washington. Tall ship
tours and day sails were available on the Madeline and
Appledore schooners. There was a lot of great food and
drink, many artists, craftsmen and vendors had great things
available for sale. For many it is truly, a unique
experience! There were educational/conservation
displays and more. Bounding Main entertained on
Saturday and Sunday of the festival, of course! Sara Grover has
whipped this event into a world-class affair, and thousands
of people had a wonderful time in Port Washington this
weekend.

Holiday Music Motel
–
August
1, 2009 5:00 –
7:00 PM
|
 We
were thrilled to perform in concert at the
amazing and historic Holiday Music Motel immediately
following the Classic and Wooden Boat Show in Sturgeon Bay.
The Motel is right across Green Bay from the Maritime Museum
via the Michigan Street steel bridge (On the corner of
Michigan and First).
This Motel has
become the cornerstone location for music aficionados when
it was purchased and renovated by a group of musicians and
music enthusiasts involved with the Steel Bridge Festival.
This event is a benefit to raise money and awareness for the
preservation of the historic Michigan Street Bridge.
You can read all of the interesting details on the Motel's
web site.
We’ll
performed from 5:00 until 7:00 to a delightful audience.
We count everyone we met there to be our new friends and we
hope to return again soon and often.

Door
County Maritime Museum's Classic & Wooden Boat Show
–
August
1, 2009 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
|
Picture a maritime town in the heart of where Green Bay
meets Lake Michigan. Sturgeon Bay has a marvelous
history, an excellent museum and one of the most fun
festivals you'll ever see. Not only will you see
various new and classic boats, you will experience a
competition where teams assemble boats out of provided
materials and endeavor to float and navigate around in them.
Thousands of people come out for this competition every year
and Bounding Main returned for our third year to provide
rich nautical music for the show on Saturday August 1st.
We performed around the grounds and in two concerts during
the day. It was wonderful to be so warmly greeted by
many of the exhibitors, boat-builders and museum guests.
This is certainly one of our favorite venues and we were
happy to return. Door County, Wisconsin is worth a trip all by itself, so why
don't you be sure to come up and make it a long weekend this
year?

Bounding Main returned to our home port
of Bristol Harbor at the Bristol Renaissance Faire. Located just
off of Highway 94 at the Illinois-Wisconsin border, this venue is
one of the oldest and most popular events of its kind. We brought
our inimitable renditions of maritime music to those 40
acres of historical costumes, entertainment, musicians, food
and shops on Saturday and Sunday. For fun

Port Washington Pirate Festival

June 5-7, 2009
|
"Batten Down the Hatches. Make
Your Peace with Davey Jones. We Invade Again June 5-7,
2009!"
The scenic harbor of Port Washington, Wisconsin provided the
perfect picturesque setting for all the mayhem and merriment
of the Port Pirate Festival. It has become the must
attend event for boaters, bikers, re-enactors and families
alike from all over the Midwest and beyond. The event
included: a Pirate Invasion Stunt Show, a Thieves Marketplace, a Gruel
Galley, a Buccaneer Bash, fireworks, children's activities,
demonstrations, educational exhibits, variety acts, a
parade, a pirate ship and music by Water Street Bridge, The
Jolly Rogers and Bounding Main.
Bounding Main has been a part of
this festival from the beginning and every year has been an
utter thrill as the town is filled stem to stern with
pirates! It really is an incredible event that you
don't want to miss - and you certainly want to travel
to see it! If you didn't make it out in 2009, pencil
in the first weekend in June for 2010!

Janesville Renaissance Faire
–
May 16-17, 2009
|
Bounding Main had a
wonderful weekend at the Janesville Renaissance Faire on May
16 and May 17, 2009. The weather was sunny, and aside from
some wind on Saturday, it was a good weather weekend.
Everyone that worked the event was simply delightful, and
the show so well run, that we had yet another good year at
this event. If you have not visited this faire, schedule
some time to visit next year. You will see some familiar
faces, some new ones, and have oodles of fun. This year, we
were able to spend time with some very talented performers
and reconnect with Bounding Mainiacs that we have not seen
in several months. Those that showed up in costume were very
handsomely dressed, and those are comfy clothes, well, we
envied them a bit as the wind made it chilly! We didn't
notice the chill on Saturday as there was music, food,
drink, a variety of shows, and stunning wares crafted by
gifted vendors. For more information on this event

Sixth Birthday Party House Concert
–
January 24, 2009
|
Bounding Mainiac Ray hosted a
folk-music type House Concert complete with signs posted
along the road to allow even the most directionally
challenged (cough-Gina-cough) to find the venue! There was
good music (if we do say so ourselves), tasty food and
everyone was there to have a great time hanging out with
Bounding Main. Friends, fans and newcomers to our shows
shared an evening together that included the audience
singing to us to celebrate our 6th year together (the
anniversary of our first rehearsal was on
January 19) and we were even given hot-pink buttons
announcing, “I’m 6 Years Old Today”! Thanks guys for
thinking of us! We acted our age by generally being silly,
eating lots of sweets, putting on strange costumes, and
telling jokes…poorly. There was even a
pirate-chest piñata stuffed with candy and high-quality
plastic toys! Ray and his friends were wonderful hosts and
rigged the piñata line up for us at the last minute to add
that wee bit of nonsense that makes Bounding Main who we
are. Thank you again Ray, and everyone who helped set-up the
event, for all you did. Thank you to all who attended the
event and went with us on our first voyage of the year. And
thanks to all who spent some time simply chatting with us
between sets and after the show. A special "thanks!!!" to
Sandy for taking photos for us-you can see her work posted
in the Photo Gallery right now! To close, we never want you
to forget that we know, without you all, we would be singing
to ourselves! Ahoy Mates! |

Liereliet Festival in Workum,
Friesland, The Netherlands
– October 18-19, 2008 |
 |
Bounding Main participated in a
wonderful event in a town deep in the Netherlands that is
richly steeped in maritime history. The Liereliet
Festival has been hosting big names in the maritime
music genre for a long time and organizers Nanne Kalma and
Ankie van der Meer invited us to come out
in 2008 to join in on the fun. The festival begins a
week of sailing events with traditional vessels, called the
Strontrace. Because of that part of the festival is held
in the harbor of the old Zuiderzee city of Workum. The start
of the race with traditional ships built for the inland
waters is on the following Monday. We are tickled pink to
have been
able to join them for this wonderful event. We ran
into some old friends (Johnny Collins, Tom Kastle, Nanne & Ankie)
and made some excellent new friends (Jim Mageean,
Miguel Biard & Patrick Denain, Gaye & Trish, Trim Rig and a Doxy
among many others!). For more

Festival Maritim in Bremen,
Germany – August 8-10, 2008 |
|
Bounding Main is delighted to say that
they had an overwhelmingly good time overseas in Bremen, Germany for this long-running
maritime venue, Festival Maritim. This was our first
European show and it was made possible by the incredible support of
our fans through their participation in the
Deport Bounding Main campaign.
It is through the generous and kind gifts of our friends that we
reached our goal of raising enough money for our transportation to
Europe for this event. We are delighted that sea shanties
remain hugely popular in Germany, as they are in The Netherlands,
Poland, England and France - this should be an amazing event!.

Operation Share the
Shanties in Landstuhl, Germany
– August 13, 2008 |
Bounding Main entertained at
the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany on August
13, 2008. The LRMC is the American military hospital where
some of the most severely wounded members of our armed forces are
sent for medical attention and rehabilitation. As part of our
visit we created a project called Operation Share the Shanties,
which is to provide a special "Best of Bounding Main" CD to the
soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen being cared for at the
facility. We have several generous sponsors of this project,
including
Northern Wings Repair, Inc.,
ROM Squared, Inc.,
Transcendent LLC,
The ADS Group and of course all of
you who have sponsored the gift of a Personalized Message CD
to one of the wounded that we'll be visiting. We are honored
be able to perform for these men and women who are the kinds of
heroes we can only sing about. If you want to sponsor a CD to
one of our wounded military members please contact Gunner Maggie at

Bounding Main entertained
airmen and their families at the American Air Force

near the small German town of Spangdahlem, with larger cities nearby
including Bitburg and Trier, Spangdahlem Air Base consists of the
main base and the Bitburg Annex, located approximately 20 minutes
from the main base. The 52nd Fighter Wing -- the base's host wing --
is involved in numerous deployments around the globe, and its
members are always prepared to project superior combat power,
following the motto: "SEEK ATTACK DESTROY." The base supports
a number of personnel and their families and is an American enclave

June 7-8, 2008 |

Bounding Main is happy to say that
they shared their sea shanties with thousands of pirates
that descended upon Port Washington, Wisconsin for this
fourth-annual Aaarh-straviganza. Already the second largest
event in picturesque Port Washington, the Pirate Festival draws
people from all over the United States for three days of fun and
adventure. There was a show featuring a cannon
battle between the town militia and a pirate ship, a parade,
musicians, variety acts, lots of vendors, food and pirates
everywhere! We are particularly delighted to say that we had a
fantastic time performing with our
friends
Jesse Linder,
Rakhshanda

Deport Bounding Main Campaign
Extravaganza –
May 31, 2008 |
Bounding Main's Deport
Campaign Extravaganza was a huge success. Not only was
the event a celebration of our first five years of
performing together, but it was also our final fundraiser
for our trip to Europe in August. Bounding Main had
three performance sets, supported by the enormously talented
Rakhshanda Tribal Bellydancers and the hysterical Phil
Johnson - a.k.a. MoOnie. The silent auction was wildly
successful - as of this writing we're still tallying the
totals. On display were costumes worn by members of
Bounding Main in the group's early years, and yearbooks
filled with photos, programs, notes and other fun items.
One of the featured items was the birthday cake - an amazing
three-tiered, colorful and delicious creation with a
fountain and cut-outs of the crew. It was amazing! |
|

THE AMAZING BIRTHDAY CAKE'S TOPPER |
As an aside, also performing at the Gorton Community Center
was the comedy team-up of MoOnie and BrooN, who generously
let Bounding Main open for their 2:00 and 8:00 shows.
Bounding Main was very well received, and were honored to
have been able to share a stage with that pair.

St. Louis Pirate Festival
–
September 29-30, 2007 |
|
Bounding Main was one of the
featured artists for the second year of this exciting event.
The producer of the St. Louis Renaissance Faire, Doug Glenn,
has created an exciting and popular show for the Greater St.
Louis area! He has reworked his
existing cast members into subjects and denizens of Fort
Royal on Martinique in the Golden Age of Piracy, much to the
delight of thousands of visitors. We were fortunate enough to share the fun on the
third and final weekend with "Axel the Sot," "Shillelagh
Law," "Tom Bedlam," "Swords and Roses," "The Chuvani
Belly dancers," and many other fine acts.

House Concert
– Friday Sept. 14 2007 |
|
As a
special treat for our friends and fans we hosted a house
concert to make up for the performance day we lost when our
last show day at Bristol was rained out. We recorded
the evening's music in the hopes that some of the tracks can
be included on our third CD, which is now in production.
We had a huge turn-out, most people bringing an enormous
amount of food and even more good cheer. It was great
to celebrate the end of the season with so many friends, old
and new. |

Interview and
Performance on Lake Effect — Wednesday August 29, 2007 |
 |
Thanks to a tip
from friend and Bounding Mainiac Norma Mortimer (of the Guilde of
St. Lawrence of Bristol) Arts Producer Bonnie North invited us to
appear on Milwaukee Public Radio program Lake
Effect. We sang some songs and will chatted with Bonnie about our music,
our history together as Bounding Main and maritime music in general.
Lake Effect is a daily, one-hour magazine show that reflects
the unique character of southeastern Wisconsin - whether it
means in-depth series coverage of important issues, or
interviews produced on-site to allow listeners an audio
window into a place they've never been. Like its
predecessor, "At 10", Lake Effect also features in-studio
performances by musicians, as well as additional produced
feature stories, commentaries, essays, and sound portraits.
We're all very excited by this opportunity! We're not
yet aware of when this show will be broadcast, but if you
miss the live broadcast the show will be available to listen
to online at the Lake Effect website. |

Naval
Retirement Ceremony - Great Lakes, IL — Tuesday August 21, 2007 |
|
We are
exceptionally proud to say that we performed
at the retirement ceremony of US Navy Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Shirley on
Tuesday, August 21. In addition to our usual nautical
repertoire we also performed a new arrangement of "The Star
Spangled Banner," by our own Jon Krivitzky. This was a private
party for Matt Shirley's coworkers, friends and family and we were
truly honored to have been asked to be a part of it. Matt told
us some great stories of how he used our music on his job at Great
Lakes, which we'll share with you in our Ship's Log.. |

Bristol Renaissance Faire -
Kenosha, WI — August 18 - 19, 2007 Bounding Main returned to
our home port of Bristol Harbour at the Bristol Renaissance Faire.
Located just off of Highway 94 at the Illinois-Wisconsin border,
this venue is one of the oldest and most popular events of its kind.
The Bristol Renaissance Faire celebrated its twentieth anniversary
this year, and revived the theme from its tenth-year
anniversary: Feast of Fools. How appropriate that
Bounding Main came back again this year! We offered up our
foolishness on those 40 acres of historical costumes, entertainment,
musicians, food and shops on Saturday only, as for the first time in
25 years the show closed on Sunday because of flooding!

Kenosha Tall
Ships - Days of Discovery - Kenosha, WI — Sunday August 12, 2007 |
 |
This summer was a majestic one once again for Kenosha,
Wisconsin, as the city welcomed the return of tall-masted sailing
vessels known as “tall ships” to Kenosha’s harbor. Used as the
primary means of trade and transportation in the 1800’s, these
historic replicas lined Kenosha’s harbor in grand fashion and
transported visitors to another place and time. Kenosha Days of
Discovery was a captivating and exciting maritime festival featuring
tours of visiting ships, sailing excursions, food and drink, music,
intriguing exhibits, and an array of family friendly entertainment
and activities. After a
two-year hiatus this wonderful event returned, hosted by The
Kenosha Days of Discovery Foundation and The Kiwanis Club of Western
Kenosha. Bounding Main entertained on
Sunday
August 12, only from 3:00 to 4:00, but we will also wandered the
site earlier in the day. |

Maritime Heritage
Festival — Saturday
& Sunday August 4-5, 2007 |
|
The maritime history of Port Washington
was again
celebrated
during the 2007 Maritime Heritage Festival in historic Port
Washington. Tall ship tours and day sails were
available on the Madeline and Appledore schooners. There was
a lot of great food and drink, many artists, craftsmen and
vendors had great things available for sale. For many
it was truly, a unique experience!
Bounding Main entertained throughout the festival, of course!
There were also educational/conservation displays and a
sneak peek at the Port Washington Maritime Heritage Museum.
Sara Grover organized a very full and fun event, and we very
much look forward to participating in this Port Washington
show again! |

Wisconsin Renaissance Faire — Saturday
& Sunday July 14-15, 2007 |
 |
We were thrilled and delighted to
have landed on the shores of Doon Douglas
again in 2007. That young and beautiful new renaissance
faire (technically a "mediaeval faire") in Chippewa Falls,
Wisconsin had bid us return once more to perform our maritime
music on their stages. For those of you who are long-time
fans of ours you will know that we simply cannot rave enough
about this show. The grounds are very well planned, the
stages all reside in dells so that sound from one stage does not
blow up another, there is good seating everywhere, the food is
even better than last year, the resident scenario ensemble is friendly and
inviting and there are many good and kind vendors as well.
Perhaps a bit off the beaten path, a trip here can be combined
with a trip to the Twin Cities or many scenic vacation spots in
North-West Wisconsin. |

Bounding Main BBQ - "DEPORT
Bounding Main!" — Saturday June 23, 2007 |
|
We kicked off the DEPORT Bounding
Main campaign with a BBQ in Grayslake on the afternoon of Saturday,
June 23. All the food was brought and cooked by Bounding Main
(or more specifically, Dean's wife Richelle cooked most of the
dishes),
and we supplied refreshing drinks as well. On top of the
delicious eats, there was madcap hilarity, games, and maybe a little
singing.
For those of you who joined us -
thank you so much for such a good turnout. For those of you
that missed the event - we'll be having more of these fun
festivities throughout the year. Watch the "Deport

Port Washington Pirate
Festival — Friday - Sunday June 1-3, 2007
|
 |
Tens of thousands of pirate reenactors, fans, vendors and aficionados descended upon the beautiful
town of Port Washington, Wisconsin for the Third Annual Port
Washington Pirate Festival. The 2006 event was a
smashing success with a weekend attendance of over 14,000 people,
and 2007 attendance looked to be even bigger and better! More vendors, more
entertainers, two days of Pirate Invasion shows, and more fun
than a barrel of monkeys. Even a tornado warning and hundreds
of people seeking shelter on Sunday afternoon for variety!
All in all it appeared to be a wildly successful event with people
attending from all over the country. |

Pirates Exhibit Opening - Door County Maritime Museum — Friday May
11, 2007 The
Door County Maritime Museum has
prepared an exhibit on pirates, a show to appeal to the fascination
shared by adults and children alike. The exhibit includes real
history on the likes of Blackbeard, Captain Kidd, Anne Bonney and
Mary Read, original works by nationally known painter and pirate
illustrator Don Maitz, interactive stations to experience the
challenge of a pirate’s life, and a look at the crime and criminals
that plied the Great Lakes. Bounding Main performed for the
preview opening of this exhibit for members of the Door County
Maritime Museum and Lighthouse Preservation Society. Maritime
and pirate aficionados began enjoying the exhibit themselves Saturday May 12.

Ports o' Call
— Saturday March 8, 2007
 |
The Door County Maritime
Museum and Lighthouse Preservation Society held their annual
fundraiser event, "Ports of Call."
at the Stone Harbor Resort in Sturgeon Bay, a facility that was
larger than the yacht club at which it was previously hosted. Chefs from all of the fine
dining establishments throughout Door County (all of the "ports")
provided samples of their amazingly delicious food specialties. There
were silent and live
auctions to benefit the Museum, and of course entertainment by
Bounding Main. Last year we sang from table-to-table, but this
year we'll also had a 30-minute stage set. Everyone had
such a wonderful time with the food and music and spirited
auctioneering - even if you're not a Door County resident you
should take this as an opportunity to support your favorite
music group and support their favorite museum as well - look to
make this a stop in 2008. |

Chicago Maritime Festival
— Saturday, February 24, 2007 |
|
Bounding Main was one of the
featured performing groups at the 2007 Chicago Maritime Festival.
Host to many popular international artists, the CMF has become the
Midwest USA's premier venue for nautical music. The other,
excellent performers appearing this year were
Jerry Bryant,
Johnny Collins, the Philippe Duo,
and hosts
Tom and Chris Kastle. For
those interested in historical and contemporary maritime and Great Lakes topics,
there were many information-rich seminars during the day to enjoy.
Bounding Main participated in the All-hands Sing-Out
at 10:00 am in the Chicago Room North; we held a Songs for
Younger Sailors showcase at 11:00 in the same room, and at 1:30
we co-hosted with Johnny Collins a Pirates &
Scoundrels panel and song-set. Of course we performed in the evening concert at 7:00 as well! For a full

Pirates
of the Caribbean Private Party — Saturday, February 10, 2007 |
 |
This was a private party for one of
Milwaukee's largest employers, GE Medical Systems. The event
was organized by our friends Alicia Campbell and Rick D'Aloia of
Destination Wisconsin. What an event! These are
organizations that don't do things in half-measures. Every
room used at the Italian American Community Center was decorated
heavily with pirate-themed accessories, from ships wheels, to
ratlines, rigging, boardwalks, chests o' swag, skeletal hanging
pirates and much more. Certainly this was an event to remember
for all of the employees. We were well received with our
singing and our running of the limbo-contest (!). This is the
beginning of a nice relationship for us with Destination Wisconsin
as they want to feature us as a standard component of their
pirate-themed corporate parties. |

St. Louis Pirate Festival —
September 23-24, 2006 |
|
Bounding Main
was one of the featured artists for the second weekend of this exciting
new event. The producer of the St. Louis Renaissance
Faire, Doug Glenn, managed to pull off a great event!
Reworking his existing cast members into subjects and
denizens of Fort Royal on Martinique in the Golden Age of
Piracy, the event closed on a wildly successful note, having
an equal number of attendees as a normal day of their well
established Renaissance Faire event. All of the
merchants were wildly delighted with the amount of business
that they did as well. In 2007 they will be holding
the Pirate Festival for three full weekends, so confidant is
Doug and his staff of the staying power of this event.
We were fortunate enough to share the fun on the second
weekend not only with the core cast, but with "The Limey
Birds," "The Pirate Shantyman and the Bonny Lass," "Three
Pints Gone," "Starboard Bound" and many other fine acts. |

Renaissance Faire — July 8-9, 2006
|
 |
We cannot say enough
good things about this young faire. The owners and directors
of this production are doing everything "right," and have created a
successful show that will rival the largest and oldest faires for
customer loyalty, entertainment and value for admission.
Beautiful and growing Doon Douglas, on the banks of the
beautiful Chippewa River in Chippewa Falls, WI, near Eau Claire and
the Twin Cities, is a wonderful and enchanting place. If
you're a veteran visitor of an established Renaissance Faire like
Minnesota or Bristol you really need to come out to a show like
this. The energy and excitement is powerful and acts both new
and established make for a very entertaining day. While they're billing themselves as being a "Medieval" faire set in
1345 you'll be comfortable in your renaissance garb as you stroll
about and catch all of the fun entertainment.
The Faire is open from
weekends of June 17th-18th through July 15th-16th, 2006.
Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Port
Washington Pirate Festival — June 2-4, 2006
|
Pirates invaded
Port Washington, Wisconsin again in 2006, with a resounding "bang!"
This was THE BIG pirate event on the Great Lakes!
Bounding Main was joined by many excellent music and variety acts at
this wildly popular young venue. In 2005 this festival
was put together at the last minute and it did so well that it was
decided to make it an annual event.
There was a large cast of entertainers, historical reenactors,
pirate groups, more vendors, more contests, a children's area, book
signings and a cannon-blasting ship-to-shore battle (the Pirate
Invasion scenario written by Bounding Main's own Dean Calin) that
kicked off the event. The grounds quadrupled in size, the number
of performers quintupled and the volume of local interest was
staggering! The reservations for the Pirate Ship Cruises
were almost entirely sold out! Bounding Main also sold a
record number of CDs and made many new friends and fans. |

able to perform the wonderful homeward bound shanty "Good-bye,
Fare Thee Well" with our audience and our friends the Bounding
Mainiacs. We ended up performing a total of seven+ shows this
day and it was a wonderful end to the season!

| Waukegan
Harbor Arts & Recreation Fest — Saturday August 27, 2005 On Saturday, August 27th
we entertained in Waukegan, Illinois, for the W.H.A.R.F. (Waukegan
Harbor Arts and Recreation Fest). The great lakes
schooner, Denis Sullivan was docked, on which we performed, as well
as throughout the grounds. There was also an art show, and
other events like a kite-flying demonstration, jet-ski demos and
more. The crew of the Denis Sullivan was very kind to us,
sharing stories and poetry between our songs to a very welcoming
audience.

15th Annual
Door County Maritime Museum Classic
& Wooden Boat Show — August 6, 2005
Picture a maritime town
in the heart of where Green Bay meets Lake Michigan. Sturgeon
Bay has a marvelous history, an excellent museum and one of the most
fun festivals you'll ever see. Not only will you see various
new and classic boats, you will experience a competition where teams
assemble boats out of provided materials and endeavor to float
and navigate around in them. Thousands of people come out for
this competition every year and Bounding Main provided rich
nautical music for the show on Saturday August 6th. Door
County, Wisconsin is worth a trip all by itself, so why don't you
come up and make it a long weekend?

Maggie's Family's Mini-House Concert
June 18, 2005
"A funny thing happened to Bounding Main on our way home from
Oshkosh! We stopped off in another Wisconsin town for a brief
and very informal concert for Maggie’s grandmother who would not
be able to hear the group any other way. Maggie’s family
welcomed us warmly into their home and we truly enjoyed our time
with them! Maggie’s mother sang along and the pet bird
seemed to have a great time! Everyone there was delightful and
were excited to hear Maggie share her music. Did I mention they
offered to feed us? What a great group of people!" — Gina.
Maggie says, "Here is a write-up
Grandma is sending to the Fond du Lac Reporter. She was a
reporter for them for many years . . ."
Saturday, June 18, saw
"Bounding Main" come bounding into Fond du Lac. The six
young people completed an engagement at the grand opening of
the Oshkosh Public Museum's Pirate Exhibit. On their journey
home, they stopped in Fond du Lac at the home of Paula
Hannington, former area writer. They entertained a small
family group with their unique style of harmonizing and
performing. One member, Maggie Hannington, grew up near
Brownsville, Wisconsin. She performs with Bounding Main in
her spare time. Bounding Main's crew is a group of
performers with the love of music and performance in their
blood. All of the members are theatrically and musically
trained, which makes their shows great fun! Preserving the
Elizabethan Sea Dog look in their costumes and gear, they
sing sea shanties and ballads from 400 years ago through
today. While this might, on the surface, sound academic,
Bounding Main shows are filled with spirit, humor and
excellent vocal music. For more information about Bounding
Main, see
www.boundingmain.com.
[A bittersweet
addendum to this tale is that Maggie's grandmother passed away
August 15, 2005. A remarkable woman with an amazing legacy
behind her. We are honored to have met her and enormously
pleased that she was entertained by our gift of song. —

Oshkosh Public Museum's Pirates Exhibit Opening
June 18, 2005
Bounding Main performed June
18, 2005, at the Oshkosh Public Museum to help kick off their
“Pirates!” exhibit (running through October 30, 2005). The
exhibit itself is wonderfully constructed and includes many
hand-on experiences. You can pretend to load a cannon, dress-up
like a pirate, take a sniff of the many smells that the pirates
lived with, look at authentic and wondrous pirate artifacts, and
get lost in whimsical pirate artwork. The opening day
festivities also included things to do like make your own pirate
hat, make a pirate boat to race outside, and you could even try
some grog and other snacks. The rest of the museum is equally
well conceived with many different exhibits and things to
experience. We would recommend that anyone in the area take a
few hours to explore the museum, which incidentally, is housed
in an old mansion complete with Tiffany stained-glass windows
and beautiful landscaping.

Friends & Family Day: Pirates at Steinhafel's
June 5, 2005
On Sunday June 5, after the Port Washington Pirate Festival
wound down, we moved our show down to Steinhafel's on Hwy 50 off
of Hwy I-94. They hosted a Friends & Family Get-together with a
Pirate Theme. "It is by invitation only, but we never turn
anyone away," said organizer Bill Schroeder. We sang our
nautical songs from 6:00 until 9:00 in an appropriately
decorated reception area. There was a ton of food, candy and
give-aways -- excellent hosts, these. Many of the employees
were decked out as Pirate Pollies and Nautical Neds; it seemed
that everyone was having a great time and that they enjoyed our
music.

Port Washington Pirate Festival
June 3-5, 2005
What an incredibly fun event this turned out to be! The Port
Washington Pirate Festival was the first of what we hope will be
a long-running annual event. The local merchants showed a lot
of participation and spirit for the show. When we weren't
performing on stage we strolled around the downtown area,
singing in shops and restaurants (we were very well received,
wonderful people in Port Washington!). The Scurvvy Dawgs
performed their own show of pirate comedy also, and they sold
merchandise at a table in the Thieves' Market as well, clever
boys, them! In several places we saw evidence of a treasure
hunt throughout the downtown area, the vendors enjoying the
game. We also officiated a costume contest that had a lot of
enthusiastic participants! Great fun all around! It seems
clear that this will become a very successful annual venture, in
which we hope to always participate!

3rd Annual Chicago Maritime Festival
February 26, 2005
Bounding Main had a
wonderful time at the Chicago Maritime Festival. We had the opportunity to meet with and sing with
many talented artists in the maritime music genre, such as
Lee Murdock,
Talitha
MacKenzie and Gabrielle Bouthillier, Liette Remon and Robert
Bouthillier from Serre l'Ecoute.
It was wonderful to see our friends
Tom & Chris Kastle
and
William Pint and Felicia Dale again. The Sheridan Shore Chantey Singers,
The Friends Good Will Singers and the past and present students
of the Old Town School of Folk Music Sea Music Class had fun
performances as well. This show does an excellent job of
bringing together performers from all points of the compass to
explore and celebrate this style of music, and cheers to the many
sponsors and presenters (Hi Wendy Lutzke from the Wisconsin Maritime
Museum at Manitowoc!) who help make happen this great event.

St. Louis Renaissance Faire
May 21-22, 2005
Bounding Main performed at the St. Louis Renaissance Faire last
weekend (May 21-22, 2005) to a very warm reception. They have a
lovely ship stage, the Salamander, which was perfect for our
performances. This was a delightful event that we heartily
recommend to renaissance faire aficionados, music lovers and
anyone in or around the St. Louis area.

Molly's Place
November 12, 2004
Bounding Main performed a house concert at the legendary Molly's
Place.
Molly's Place is the home of Brian and Diane Leo, a.k.a. "Molly &
The Tinker," veteran folk musicians of renown. This location
has been witness to many wonderful concerts by a veritable "Who's
Who" of the folk music scene, and we are honored to have been asked
to join them.
Next up for the house concert
series is the highly popular singers of BOUNDING MAIN.
They're scheduled to drop anchor in Mokena on Friday,
November 12, at 8:00. If you like hearty and rowdy pirate
music, touched by classy and clever arrangements, you won't
want to miss these 6 singers. So don't!

Southport Lighthouse Festival
June 5, 2004"The Southport
Lighthouse Festival" was a 2-day event that called attention to
the restoration work going on at the light station and featured
the maritime history of Kenosha & Kenosha Harbor. Visitors
learned about the hardships of the lighthouse keepers that
tended the lights at Kenosha. Maritime crafts were demonstrated
and entertainers (us!) sang about storms, shipwrecks and the
life of the sailors that plied Lake Michigan. Saturday night
featured a traditional Lake Michigan fish boil with fresh caught
fish from Door County. For the first time the lighthouse tower
was open to the public for tours to the top. This was a
fun venue that we shared with
David HB
Drake.
